Building a Bridge

The Colby Community College Adult Education Program has been active this year assisting students to build a bridge to support their goals. Currently, the program has 91 enrollees in Northwest Kansas. Student’s goals vary and the staff provides individual programs to support the students in their personal endeavors.

Learners in Colby, Hays, and the Northwest Kansas area have the opportunity to raise their skill levels, prepare for postsecondary education, and become equipped to step into the job market through free adult basic education classes offered by the Colby Community College Adult Education Program.

Adult education offers a variety of opportunities for learners including GED preparation and assistance in raising skill levels in the area of math, reading, and writing. In addition, the program assists individuals in obtaining the knowledge and skills necessary for employment and self-sufficiency, assists learners with money management basics, provides an opportunity to learn basic skills involving technology, computers and the Internet and assists in career exploration and employment skills.

New to the program this year are three very specific sessions: Workplace Essentials (instructors will demonstrate how to complete job applications correctly, write letters of application, create resumes, interview effectively, and offer suggestions on how to obtain and keep a job), Basic Computer Skills (c lasses are designed to help adults learn basic skills including: computer terminology, basics of Microsoft Word, use of email, and searching the Web. The course is for beginners or individuals with little to no computer experience, Senior Citizens are welcome!), and Money Management (budgeting and personal spending, checking, credit, and savings).
