Basic Skills
Seminars in Basic Skills are designed with a variety of people in mind, including those who have a high school diploma! Many learners have missed skills along the educational path or their skills have become a bit “rusty” for lack of use and benefit from attending classes.
- Reading: This course assists learners in reading skills necessary for every day life. Students learn to read for meaning as they increase their vocabulary and reading speed.
- Math Skills: This course is designed to instruct and/or review learners in basic mathematical skills including: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, order of operations, percents, ratio and proportion, beginning algebra, and applied geometry. It will provide foundation knowledge helpful for those wishing to assist their school aged children, planning to enroll in college, desiring to enter the job market, or sharpen their skills for personal satisfaction.
- Writing Skills: This course assists learners in putting their thoughts on paper. Basic grammar, punctuation, and sentence and paragraph structure are reviewed. Students learn to write a short essay, a business letter and a resume.
